Hospital-based nursing

An Oncology Liaison Nurse is a specific type of hospital-based nurse, who provides emotional and practical support during your cancer journey. These nurses are experienced cancer specialists who work with the hospital team to manage your overall care. We support many oncology liaison nurses in major hospitals throughout Ireland.

What oncology liaison nurses do

Oncology liaison nurses help to communicate between you or your loved one and the oncology team, as often people may be too fearful or overwhelmed to voice a particular worry or concern that they may have.

Account of an oncology liaison nurse

"I meet the patient when they are initially diagnosed or when they come to see the oncologist. I follow them through their treatment and afterwards throughout their clinic visit. I'm there from the very start. Its a familiar face in a very unfamiliar time."

-Maureen Kyne, Oncology liaison nurse
